    The two-part multiple unit has underfloor tilting technology and a diesel-hydraulic drive that makes the train travel at up to 160 kilometres per hour.     The two-part multiple units of the 628.4 class each consist of a power car and a control car. These are a more strongly motorised variant of the predecessor 628.0 to 628.2 class, which were developed in the mid-1970s but only went into class production in 1986. The VT 628 can be found almost everywhere in Germany, mostly as regional trains (RegionalBahn, RB). Two multi-purpose compartments with spaces for wheelchair users, prams or bicycles at the relevant ends of the multiple unit, a toilet facility in the centre of the multiple unit and ventilated passenger compartments are all part of the basic equipment of the 628 class. With a diesel-hydraulic drive producing a continuous output of 485 kW, the 628.4 achieves a top speed of up to 120 kilometres per hour. The VT 628 can be coupled in multiple.

    Just like the 643 series, the 644 Talent multiple unit has a three-part design. In contrast to the VT 643, however, the 644 is diesel-electrically driven and produces an output of over 1,000 kW. Both wheelsets in the bogies at the head ends are driven by three-phase current asynchronous motors. These are supplied with traction power via generators from two diesel engines. Due to its high acceleration, the multiple unit is also suitable for use in suburban railway traffic. Six wide access doors and a floor height adapted to S-Bahn platforms are part of the standard equipment of the VT 644. For stops at lower platforms, the multiple unit has retractable steps. The interior design of the VT 644 is basedthe design of other newly built railcars. The air-conditioned passenger areas have modern seating landscapes and a multi-purpose area. The VT 644 is also equipped with centre buffer couplers and can be operated in multiple traction.

At the end of car 1 is the reception area, the wheelchair-accessible WC and a second class passenger compartment with wheelchair space. The vehicles have modern passenger information with external destination displays and internal passenger information displays. Stop names are announced automatically, and satellite-supported and manual switching of the stop announcement and display takes place.
